7th Annual "We the Fathers of Montgomery County" Banquet Set for June 17

Montgomery County’s Office of Strategic Initiatives and Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County’s seventh annual “We the Fathers of Montgomery County” Banquet is taking place from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 17, at the Sinclair Conference Center, 444 W. Third Street.

Fathers play a critical role in ensuring happy, healthy children in our community. This event is designed to inspire and connect local dads with resources to be supportive parents.

The banquet will feature engaging speakers on the topic of fatherhood. Speakers include Judge Walter Rice and a returning citizen who will share how he has mended broken relationships with his children after incarceration.

There will also be a plated meal, prize giveaways, music by the band Top Secret, and a father/child fashion show with help from Clothes that Work.

"The impact a father has on his child's life is unmatched,” said Carolyn Rice, Montgomery County Commission President. “This event supports that message and reassures these dads that parenting isn't about being perfect. It's about being present.”

According to the National Fatherhood Initiative, children who grow up in fatherless homes are:

  • At four times greater risk of poverty
  • Twice as likely to both drop out of school and suffer from obesity
  • Seven times more likely to become pregnant as a teen
  • More likely to have behavioral problems and face abuse and neglect
  • More likely to abuse drugs and alcohol or to be incarcerated

Individual seats are $40, and tables are still available for purchase at $320. Community members often purchase tickets for returning citizens who may want to attend with their children.
