Montgomery County is rehabilitating the existing McEwen Road Bridge over the Holes Creek in Washington Township. McEwen Road Bridge is located 0.4 miles north of State Route 725 between the major intersections of Alex Bell Road and Congress Park Drive.

Existing Structure:

The existing bridge carries approximately 6,900 vehicles a day and is a three-lane, four-span slab bridge that is structurally deficient and in poor condition.  Due to deterioration, one end of the bridge has been supported on jacks since 2012, and it has had reduced load restrictions since 2016.

Rehabilitated Structure:

The project consists of jacking and temporarily supporting the slab end spans to allow reconstruction of the deteriorated abutments on existing steel piles and repair of the pier pile section loss at the waterline and protection of the pier piles with concrete encasement when complete.  The contractor will remove and replace the deteriorated slab edges, perform a deck overlay and installed new twin steel tube guardrail on the east side and a parapet wall with a new 5’ sidewalk on the west side.

Closure/Detour:

McEwen Road between Beryl Trail and Congress Park Drive will be closed to traffic during construction, and a detour will be in place.

The closing is to start Monday, August 13, 2018, and the reopening to traffic will be November 30, 2018, weather permitting.

The southbound detour for the project is Alex Bell Rd, to Paragon Rd, to Congress Park Dr.

The northbound detour for the project is Congress Park Dr to Paragon Rd to Alex Bell Rd.

Centerville School and First School:

Hadley E Watts Middle
School and First School can ONLY be accessed from the north from Alex Bell Road.

You can NOT access Hadley E Watts Middle School or First School from the south.  You must follow the detour.

Skyzone Trampoline Park and South Park Offices/Warehouse:

Skyzone Trampoline Park and South Park Offices/Warehouse can ONLY be accessed from Senate Drive off of Congress Park Dr.

You can NOT access Skyzone or South Park Offices/Warehouse from the north. You must follow the detour and enter the complex at Senate Drive off of Congress Park Dr.

Costs:

Bids were taken for the project on June 20, 2018, and the contract was awarded to Brumbaugh Construction, Inc. of Arcanum, Ohio on July 17,
2018, for $1,212,913.00.  State/Federal funds and Ohio Public Works Commission funds were secured for the construction of the project.
