ODJFS Expands and Enhances Online Application Website
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) has made several enhancements to a website that allows Ohioans to apply for food, cash and medical assistance online. Now applicants and recipients of those services can use the site -http://ODJFSBenefits.ohio.gov - to check the status of their applications, review current and past case information, complete reapplication forms, and complete interim reports.
Among other things, the website enhancements allow users to:
- View their benefits
- View their benefit history for the last 12 months
- Check the balance on their food and cash assistance cards
- Enroll in a managed care plan for their medical assistance
- View a list of notices sent to them within the last six months
- Complete and electronically sign reapplication forms
- Complete and electronically sign interim reports, if they receive cash or food assistance and were certified to receive benefits for 12 or 24 months.

Job and Family Services Call Center
The Montgomery County JFS Call Center is staffed with Customer Service Representatives who are available to:
- Answer questions regarding the status of your case;
- Inform you of the date and time of your scheduled appointment;
- Inform you of the date that benefits were issues;
- Send you any necessary forms;
- Arrange rescheduled appointments for most units; and
- Accepts all changes reported.
The MCDJFS Call Center's telephone number is 937-225-4148 and the hours of operation are Monday ~ Friday, 7:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m
The Medicaid program serves individuals and families who meet certain income guidelines, including: children up to age 19 (Healthy Start); pregnant woman; families; and those people who are 65 or older, who are blind, or have a disability.
Eligibility for health care coverage through Medicaid is determined by the County Departments of Job and Family Services (CDJFS). Disability Assistance is available for qualified disabled Ohioans through a state-funded program administered by the Office of Ohio Health Plans.
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
The Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services administers Ohio Works First (OWF) which is the financial assistance portion of Ohio's Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program. OWF was established to provide time-limited assistance to eligible families. OWF provides cash benefits to eligible, needy families for up to 36 months. The emphasis of OWF is self-sufficiency, personal responsibility and employment. Applications and eligibility determinations for OWF are completed at the County Department of Job and Family Services.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
Montgomery County Job and Family Services determines if a low-income household is eligible to receive SNAP benefits. If a household is eligible, they are provided an EBT card to use for food purchases.
Most households are families, but a household can also be a group of people living together who are not from the same family. An adult child living with a parent is usually treated as part of the parent's household. To be a separate household, a child must be over 22 even if the adult child is married and living with their own children or spouse.
The food stamp program is aimed to be supplemental assistance for food. This program is not designed to provide for the entire supermarket needs of a household, as items such as paper goods and cleaning supplies are not permitted for purchase through the EBT card.
Workforce Investment Opportunities Act (WIOA)
WIOA is the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, and offers workforce activities and services to employers, job seekers, laid off or incumbent workers, youth, veterans, displaced homemakers, self-employed individuals, and persons with significant barriers to employment. The purpose of WIOA activities is to increase job retention, earnings, occupational skills, and improve the quality of the workforce and reducing welfare dependency.
WIA offers many free services to individuals that meet certain eligibility guidelines.
Services can include:
- Funds for education/training (books, tuition, lab fees, small tools and equipment)
- Individual career guidance and counseling
- Labor market information
- Relocation assistance
- Skill upgrades and more
The Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services can assist some families with child-care payments. To be eligible for Child Care, you must have a minor child and be employed, in school, in training, or OWF Work Activity. Child Care fees are based on monthly income (earned and unearned) and your family size. Application packets are available at the Job Center. If an individual is ineligible because of income, then WIA funds may be used to provide assistance.

OhioMeansJobs-Montgomery County is the hub of The Job Center. It is staffed with full-time staffing analysts responsible for recruitment, pre-screening, testing and referral of qualified job applicants to meet the needs of area employers. OMJMC also features a state-of-the-art resource room for career exploration and job search.
