Emergency Aid for Needy Families

The Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC) program helps families overcome immediate barriers to self-sufficiency. Benefits and services are for unemployed, temporarily unemployed (furloughed) and low-income employed families or individuals in need of short-term help during a crisis. You do not have to be receiving any other type of public assistance to receive PRC. 

What services can PRC cover?

  • Rent/mortgage
  • Automobile repairs
  • Utilities
  • Home repairs
  • Emergency shelter
  • Tools, equipment for employment
  • License and testing fees
  • Uniforms for work or school
  • Employment related services

Who may be eligible?

  • Needy families with minor children
  • Pregnant women
  • Non-custodial parents of minor children (Montgomery County residents not living in same household as child, cooperating with Child Support Enforcement Agency)

Verifications needed:

  • ID for the applicant
  • Documentation regarding your emergency
  • Verification of all income within 30 days of application
  • Verification of all monthly expenses
  • Child support documents or proof that child is in your household
  • Proof of residency
  • Social security numbers for all household members

All PRC recipients must be within Federal Poverty Level guidelines.

How to apply

No appointment is needed, but you must have a face-to-face interview with a caseworker at The Job Center. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. You must show up by 3 p.m. for a same-day interview with the PRC program.
