Qualifying Life Events

A Qualifying Life Event is a change in your life that makes you eligible for a special enrollment period, allowing you to enroll or change your benefit elections. Qualifying life events include marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, death of a dependent, or dependent loss of eligibility. You may also claim a Qualifying Life Event if you or one of your covered dependents gains or loses other benefit coverage due to a change in employment status.

Coverage will be effective as of the date of the Qualifying Life Event as long as you submit the enrollment form and documentation within 30 calendar days of the event.

In order to make changes to your benefit plans, you must complete an enrollment form and submit it to the Benefits Office, along with documentation of the event, within thirty (30) calendar days of the event. If you do not enroll or provide required documentation within the allowed time frame, you will not be able to make a change until the next annual enrollment period or within 30 calendar days of a subsequent qualifying life event.

Please note: Enrollment of a newborn child is not automatic, even if you are currently enrolled in family coverage. If you fail to enroll your newborn and provide eligibility documentation within 30 calendar days of the child's birth/adoption, you will have to wait until the next annual enrollment or other Qualifying Life Event to add the child to your plan(s).
