Mandated Reporter Follow Up
Montgomery County Children Services relies on a partnership with the community to stop and prevent child abuse and neglect, and it is especially important for Children Services to have a strong relationship with mandated reporters.
Those who are required by law to report abuse and neglect are entitled to certain types of information after their initial report. Mandated reporters can get the following if they choose to follow up on their report:
- Whether the agency has initiated an investigation of the report
- Whether the agency is continuing to investigate the report
- Whether the agency is otherwise involved with the child who is the subject of the report
- The general status of the health and safety of the child who is the subject of the report
- Whether the report has resulted in the filing of a complaint in juvenile court or of criminal charges in another court
Anonymity In Reporting Abuse & Neglect
Anyone who reports abuse and neglect to Montgomery County Children Services can remain anonymous, but all callers should know that the identity of reporters is kept confidential. We encourage people to give their identities and a contact number in case follow up questions should arise after their initial referral.
For mandated reporters, it is especially important to leave your name and contact information. Doing so would create a record that you have fulfilled your legal obligation to report. Only a court order can request the identity of a referent, and the record of your referral could be important for your professional success.
