FAQs & About
Who We Are
The Montgomery County Records Center and Archives was created in 1980. As one of the first records center and archives, we provide preservation and storage to the records produced by Montgomery County offices. The Records Center and Archives provides public access to records dating all the way back to 1803.
Our Mission
The mission of the Montgomery County Records Center and Archives is to insure that county government records and information resources are both preserved and available for public access. County government records document citizens' legal, property and personal rights, as well as the actions of the government.
The Records Center and Archives insures that records and information are economically retained, efficiently made available, and promptly and legally disposed of pursuant to Ohio's records laws. The County Records and Information Manager directs the operations of this department to: implement and monitor Schedules of Record Retention and Destruction throughout the County government as directed by the County Records Commission; manage the Records Center and Archives facility; as County Archivist, economically and efficiently store and retrieve records for the general public and originating County offices; and manage the County Imaging Center which converts millions of records to electronic and microfilm images to achieve space savings in County offices and secure and preserve vital records. Contract services are also provided to local governments in Montgomery County in accordance with the policies of the County Microfilming Board.
County Microfilming Board
In cooperation with the County Records Commission, the County Microfilming Board administrates the operations of the Records Center and Archives. The secretary of the County Microfilming Board is the County Recorder, who handles the day-to-day operations of the center.
