The Downtown Dayton Bureau of Motor Vehicles, located on the first floor of the County Administration Building, strives to offer the best customer service possible. It is conveniently located next to an Auto Title Agency to allow for easy titling and registration of your vehicle. The agency averages more than 40,000 transactions a year - from issuing new drivers' licenses to selling collectors' plates for the rarest of cars. With the advent of identity theft and heightened national security, the associates are dedicated to protecting Montgomery County residents from these threats by incorporating cautious attention to detail and efficiency.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm, while the Auto Title Agency is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm.
For more information, please visit the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles website.
License Types
Beginning May 7th, 2025, the federal government will no longer consider standard driver licenses and identification cards as sufficient forms of identification for air travel. TSA will require a federally compliant driver license, identification card or another acceptable form of identification (such as a U.S. passport or military ID) to fly within the U.S. It is recommended to purchase the federally compliant license or ID at least a month before the May 7. 2025 deadline to make sure you receive the mailed license or ID on time.
The Ohio BMV offers both Standard Driver License, ID Cards and newly Compliant Driver License and ID Cards. Both Compliant and Standard cards allow you to prove your identity for tasks like registering to vote, obtaining social services or buying alcohol.
For more information on the differences between a Standard Driver License or ID and a Compliant Driver License or ID, please visit the Driver License Section of the Ohio BMV website.
Please visit the Acceptable Document Checklist Section of the Ohio BMV website for a list of acceptable documents for proof of identity.
