Environmental Learning Center

The Montgomery County Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is a state-of-the-art education facility, featurinA student at Bear Elementary cranks a handle to generate electricity, illuminating her faceg hands-on, interactive exhibits and a green parking lot. The ELC was built using sustainable building practices and has received Silver LEED certification.

The ELC educates citizens and organizations about environmental sustainability and conservation in the Montgomery County region - water, recycling, energy, wastewater, and solid waste. This education is part of an ongoing effort to manage and protect valuable natural resources and to improve the quality of life for our citizens.

Schedule a Free Tour

Guided tours are offered to all Montgomery County citizens and organizations free of charge. Local organizations may also schedule meetings and events at the ELC. To schedule your tour or event, call 937-225-4999 and ask for Jaime. When calling to schedule a tour, please include the following information:

  • Preferred date(s)
  • Preferred time
  • Number of attendeesStudents peer out of a glass window to watch trucks and heavy equipment bring in, and move trash
  • School/Group name
  • Contact name and telephone number
  • Does anyone in the group have special needs that we can provide accommodations for?

Help with Transportation Costs

The Montgomery County Solid Waste District will provide transportation reimbursement to groups of 15 or more. For information on transportation funding and requirements, contact 937-225-4999.
