Submit your recycled art for the annual recycled art contest. This contest promotes environmental awareness among students while encouraging artistic and creative thinking.



The contest is open to all Montgomery County students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. Recycled artwork must be designed and built by students, with a focus on the use of recyclable materials that have been reclaimed or reused. Participants must register to participate in the Recycled Art Contest.

Recycled Art may be created by:

  • Individuals
  • Teams of two to four students

School Category & Divisions

The contest is open to all Montgomery County K-12 students, youth groups, student organizations, etc. Recycled art entries must be designed and built with a focus on the use of recyclable materials. Submit your recycled art entry individually or as a team!  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recycled art will be awarded in the team and individual category.

How Recycled Art Will Be Judged

  • Percentage of art made from recyclable materials (paper, plastic, cardboard, and metal, etc.)
  • Originality (sculpture can be realistic or abstract)
  • Design and artistic impact (WOW factor!)
  • Complexity of sculpture 

Recycled Art Guidelines

  • Recycled Art cannot exceed 4 feet (wide), by 4 feet (long), by 4 feet (tall). Entries exceeding these limits will be disqualified.
  • Use of glass is NOT permitted
  • All recycled materials must be visible to be counted in the judging process.

Friday, April 15, 2024: Schools must register to participate in the Recycled Art Contest.

Recycled Art Drop-Off Dates

  • Thursday, May 2 | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Deliver recycled art sculptures to:

Saturday, May 4, 2024

  • Attend the awards ceremony on May 4. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the ceremony starts at 10 a.m..
  • Please remove recycled art after the award ceremony. Montgomery County Environmental Science (MCES) will not be responsible for recycled art left at the conclusion of the ceremony.
  • Enjoy the Boonshoft Museum after the awards ceremony.
