Estate
An estate is a type of case that is opened when an individual dies leaving assets that have not been transferred by contract, such as joint and survivorship property or property with beneficiary designations, which are called probate assets. The Probate Court ensures that probate assets are managed and disbursed in accordance with the decedent’s last will and testament, if one exists, and Ohio law.

Guardianship
A guardianship is a court-ordered and court-supervised relationship in which an adult/guardian is authorized to make decisions for and manage the person or estate of an individual who is adjudicated to be legally incompetent (i.e. person with a mental illness or developmental disability) or is legally incompetent by law (i.e. a minor or incarcerated person).

Marriage Certificate
There are three methods to obtain a certified copy of your marriage record.

Marriage License
The marriage license grants you the permission to marry. The license is only valid for 60 days from the date of issuance. A lost or damaged marriage license can not be replaced.

Mental Health
The Probate Court oversees the involuntary commitment process of individuals who are alleged to suffer from a mental illness while protecting their rights and ensuring that the individual receives treatment in the least restrictive environment.

Name Change
A name change is a legal proceeding to change an individual’s name on their birth certificate for the future. It does not change the original birth certificate.

A trust is the right to the beneficial enjoyment of property to which another person holds legal title. There are different kinds of trusts for different purposes, some of which are overseen by the Probate Court.
