Community Emergency Response TeamCommunity Emergency Response Teams

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) are community-led teams who are trained in basic disaster response skills. This training includes fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. You can contact your local jurisdiction or fire department to see if there is an active CERT in your community.

FEMAFEMA Independent Study Courses

Independent study courses are offered to both emergency response personnel and the public on a variety of emergency response topics. These topics range from basic incident command structure to caring for livestock during a disaster, to volunteer management. ICS 100 and 200 are good basic courses.

The Red Cross has a variety of volunteer opportunities, including the potential to be deployed to a disaster. They also offer local volunteer and training opportunities
