Nobody should be stuck paying a full tax bill on a property that has been damaged or destroyed. Properties that have been structurally damaged may be eligible to receive a reduction in taxable value. The possible reduction in value is proportional to the severity of damage. A lower property value can result in lower real estate taxes for the property until it has been essentially restored to its prior condition or value.
How to apply?
The deadline to apply is December 31st of the year that the damage occurred. For manufactured homes taxed apart from land, the deadline to apply is January 31st in the year after the damage occurred.
