Income for VA purposes is all income of the veteran and the veteran's dependents, including: 

• Wages
• Social Security Retirement or Disability Benefits
• Private Pensions
• Investment Income
• Inheritances
• Lottery Winnings

Income for VA purposes excludes the following sources:

• SSI and Public Welfare
• Earned income of children less than the minimum amount for which a single person pays Federal income tax
• Income of dependent children not available to the veteran
• Income of dependent children to the extent that it is a financial hardship on the veteran
