Volunteer Opportunities
The Volunteer Program is an important part of Children Services effort to preserve families. It offers a human resource: people who care about the lives of children.
Each volunteer attends a training course that includes policies and procedures and skills for working with children and families. Help is needed in the following areas:
Special Friend - Children need positive role models. Sometimes the children we serve lack healthy, adult-child relationships. Special Friend volunteers spend one-on-one time with a child, listening to problems, lending support and having fun together.
Administrative Assistant - The agency has a need for volunteers as clerical support or people-power for special projects.
Visitation Monitor - Volunteers facilitate visitation between children in protective custody and their families. Typically this would include monitoring children until parents arrive; receiving parents or notifying caseworkers if visits do not occur.
Resource Specialist - Serve as a link between families and community resources. Volunteers can help families locate food, clothing, housing, furniture and personal items.
Foster Care/Adoption Advocate - Volunteers can spread the word about the need for foster and adoptive families to provide homes for waiting children.
Special Events Volunteer - You may be asked to work at events sponsored by the agency such as the annual Adoption Picnic or holiday toy project.
Transportation Assistant - You may drive children and families to and from doctor and counseling appointments in your vehicle. This ensures necessary appointments are kept.
For Love of Children - Volunteer for this nonprofit organization enriching the lives of foster children and those served by Montgomery County Children Services.
