    The following dates have been set for the meetings of the Board of Trustees for 2010. Meetings are held at 4:00 pm on the first Thursday of every other month on the 10th floor of the County Administration Building located at 451 W. Third St., Dayton unless otherwise noted.

     Arts CollageThe Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District supports, nurtures, and encourages the development and preservation of arts and culture in Montgomery County with primary funding from the Montgomery County Commission.

    The Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District is a special purpose unit of government created under Ohio Law to provide support to arts and cultural organizations and individual artists within Montgomery County, Ohio. Currently, the District allocates $1 million annually to support the arts and cultural heritage of Montgomery County.

    OPERATING SUPPORT

    Direct Operating Support is allocated to the eighteen "Major" arts and cultural organizations above, through a formula process, having operating budgets of $500,000 or more.  Additionally, support is provided to the Schuster Center which is operated by the Victoria Theatre Association.

    in recognition of their work (2009-2010 categories were visual and media artists alternating every other year with literary and performing artists):

    The Intent to Apply can be submitted via email letting us know to expect your application. This helps us to begin identifying panelists based on the artforms expressed by potential applicants.

    ATTENTION LITERARY APPLICANTS: A discrepancy concerning submitting electronic copies versus hard copies of manuscripts exists on our application and guidelines. The preferred method is that you provide them electonically. However it is not a requirement. If you are more comfortable printing and submitting hard copies, please do.

    Some applicants are experiencing problems with the submit button for the Intent to Apply. If you experience problems please use the Word document and attach it as an email. For assistance please call 224-3850 or write to dunnm@mcohio.org.

     

    A workshop for those interested in learning about the application process will be at 10:00 a.m. at the downtown Dayton public library on Saturday May 22nd.

     

    Artists interested in applying must submit an Intent to Apply by May 29th to Dayton Visual Arts Center at 118 N. Jefferson Street, 45402. (or use the Submit button when filling the form out online).

    Artist Fellowship Applications are due by July 17 at Dayton Visual Arts Center, 118 N. Jefferson Street, 45402. Electronic copies are NOT accepted.

    SPECIAL PROJECTS GRANTS

    Special Project grants, are awarded on a competitive basis to small and medium-sized arts and cultural organizations.

    Application Workshop
    (Learn the guidelines and about how to complete the application. The workshops are repeat workshops. You only need to attend one.)

    • Wednesday, April 7 from Noon-1:30, Dayton Cultural/RTA Center
    • Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 a.m., Dowtown Library
    • Tuesday, April 13 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., Downtown Library

    Budget Work Session (an opportunity to learn budgeting and also to come with questions and work through what amounts to include on what lines):

    • Thursday, April 15 from 5:30-7:00, Downtown Library
    • Thursday, April 22 from Noon-1:30, Montgomery County Admin Building 

    DEADLINES

    • Special Project DRAFT applications due April 30 by 4:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building (required for first-time applicants and those desiring to have a review)
    • Special Project Final Application Deadline is Tuesday, June 1st by 4:30 p.m.
    • Review Panels will be September 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 27th (categories for each day are not yet assigned) at the Montgomery County Administration Building at 451 W. Third Street, downtown Dayton. Reviews will be on the 10th floor.
    • Grants Committee approves panel recommendations in October
    • Board votes in November
    • Press Conference in November or December

    The 2010-2011 grant cycle will be for projects taking place between November 1, 2010 and October 31, 2011.

    All deadlines are "received by/due by" and not "post-marked by"

    Bach Society of Dayton 
    Follow the Muse is a creative way that the Bach Society of Dayton is working with Muse Machine students to teach them about classical music, while including them in rehearsals and performances.

     

    Catholic Education Collaborative    
    Urban Elementary Instrumental Music Initiative is a collaborative effort of the local Catholic high schools to provide band/musical instrument experience to grade school students. Funds will be used to pay for the instructors and defray the cost for students who can't pay the fees.

     

    City of Vandalia       
    Vandalia "Chiseled" Wheels to Wings is an arts competition/exhibition celebrating Vandalia's anniversary as a city. A call for artists will go out to national stone sculpters and the selected artists will do their work locally, in a public venue where people can watch. Five finished pieces will be permanent works of public art placed throughout the city.

     

    City of West Carrollton       
    West Carrollton Mural Project is a commissioned effort by the city to celebrate the arts by exposing citizens to public art in the form of a mural. Franklin artist Eric Henn has been selected to create the work which will either appear on a wall or on a water tower, either of which will create visual appeal for its location.

     

    Culture Works       
    University Night at the Arts is an effort to reach out to college students by having special nights at the arts where college students attend performances together. Tickets are discounted and the evening includes a lecture by someone from the arts organization and a social opportunity for students from other school to meet each other.

     

    Dayton Carvers Guild    
    Artistry in Wood Show and Exhibition is held at the Dayton Expo Center and brings in over 200 wood carvers to sell their art and also provide demonstrations. The event is open to the public and includes hands-on opportunities for adults and children to experiment with wood carving.

     

    Dayton Gay Men's Chorus      
    Spring Concert 2010 Unlike its other performances throughout the year, the Spring Concert is one that is "staged" in the style of a musical, with choreography and costumes. It will take place at the Victoria Theatre as part of the Victoria's "Impact Series."

     

    Dayton International Festival   
    37th Annual A World A'Fair Weekend of activities at the Dayton Convention Center featuring cultures from around the globe. Funds will be used to bring in a performing group from South America.

     

    Dayton Jazz Orchestra      
    Miami Valley Jazz Camp is a successful summer camp that teaches various aspects of jazz and culminates in a concert performed for parents and the public.

     

    Downtown Dayton Partnership      
    Urban Nights takes place twice a year in Downtown Dayton and celebrates the arts and culture of our community. Funds pay for artists to participate and also for marketing.

     

    East End Community Services    
    Bringing Arts to the Community is a series of after school classes that will teach music, dance, creative writing, etc. that will culminate in a progam later in the year.

     

    Gem City Ballet       
    Sleeping Beauty is the performance of this timeless classic.

     

    Gem City Chorus       
    Fundamentals of Vocal Sound and Production is both a recruitment tool for the chorus and a learning opportunity for women who desire to learn more about singing. Participants attend workshops on singing and also get to sing with the chorus at a concert that coincides with the workshops.

     

    Home Based Arts       
    Amazing Arts of Dayton Edition is a coloring book written, drawn, and created by local artists. It highlights Dayton's arts organizations and is distributed to various schools.  Learning components and lesson plans are included.

     

    Hope Community Arts Center      
    Recruitment Event Series is designed to launch the creation of the Arts Center by having a series of events open to the public. These include musical performances and visual arts displays. The arts center is a new alternative that is serving not only its neighborhood but the entire community.

     

    Involvement Advocacy      
    Blue Sky Project is a summer residency program featuring local, national, and international artists working with a select number of students in a master-class setting to learn and participate in various art forms over a 6-8 week period. Works are exhibited throughout the program for the public.

     

    Jazz Advocate        
    Jazz Advocate Community Festival is a community-wide event that is hosted in a different neighborhood each year. It's goal is to promote jazz and also build vibrant communities.

     

    Kettering Children's Choir      
    KCC Classic will feature a variety of 17th century Baroque and 18th century classical music. This concert is one concert in its year-long series of presenting music from different time periods.

     

    Learning Tree Farm      
    Native Americans & Pioneers on the Farm is a project teaching students aspects of American history that revolves around Native American Indians and the Pioneers who encountered them.

     

    Miami Valley Council for Native Americans   
    Keeping the Tradition Pow Wow is held at Sunwatch and celebrates the rich heritage of Native American Indians. The event demonstrates music and dance as well as displays of cultural artifacts.

     

    Miami Valley Dance Company      
    Celebrating Twenty Years with Our Favorites will showcase ballet excerpts that have been performed by the company over the years.

     

    Miami Valley Firefighters & EMS Memorial Association   
    MV Firefighters/EMS Memorial is a project to create a Firefighter/EMS memorial at Stubbs Park in Centerville. 

     

    Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra    
    Celebrating a Score of Years of Performing Musical Scores is an anniversary performance celebrating the history of the Orchestra. In addition to performing some of its favorite pieces the Orchestra has also commissioned work to be performed by the Orchestra and directed by the composer.

     

    Oregon District        
    First Friday is an event that happens monthly downtown and in the Oregon District. Funds for artists to perform or do their art in outdoor venues that will be staged throughout the downtown and the Oregon District.

     

    Residence in Praise Fine Arts Center    
    Artistic Creative Enrichment Project is an after-school and summer camp program using local artists to work with students to teach them a variety of artforms. Performances and exhibitions feature what the youth have learned.

     

    St. Margaret's Church       
    Summer Arts Camp is a week-long summer camp teaching a variety of artforms. The camp has been so popular that it is being repeated for a second week to meet the demand.

     

    Town Hall Theatre       
    Touring to the Mathile Theatre is an effort to reach out to a wider audience by taking its performances both to local schools and also to the Mathile Theatre at the Schuster Center. The two show are Stellaluna and Flat Stanley.

     

    United Irish        
    Dayton Celtic Festival is a long-standing festival at Riverscape featuring a range of Irish, Scottish, and Welsh musicians, dancers and storytellers.

     

    Wright Dunbar, Inc.       
    The West Side Story DVD is an oral history project that will capture stories that remember and celebrate the rich history of Dayton's West side.

     

    YWCA
    One Monday Morning Series is an interactive concert series provided as part of the YWCA's early childhood education program.
