Summary:
Montgomery County Family and Children First Council Recognizes Keith D. Harrison with Award

On Friday, February 15, 2008, the Montgomery County Family and Children First Council will present the Brother Raymond L. Fitz, S.M., Ph. D. Award to Keith D. Harrison. This Award recognizes his exemplary service nurturing and promoting successful youth development in the Miami Valley.  The community has been positively impacted by Mr. Harrison's work for over thirty years as a staff member with several agencies and as a truly committed community volunteer.

Mr. Harrison's early work was with Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council and Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, where he designed and instituted youth programming that helped establish collaborative relationships with businesses to meet crisis needs, and introduced new avenues of change for impoverished youth and families.

In 2001, Mr. Harrison accepted the challenge to become the leader of Camp Fire USA Greater – Dayton Area Council, where he works to serve more than 6,000 youth, ages 4 - 18 in Montgomery, Warren, Clark and Miami Counties to improve the quality of life and ensure the future of communities by targeting not only the needs of the children, but the entire structure of the family. He is committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the community based on respect for family, spirituality and integrity.

Keith is a positive influential force and role model for families and children throughout the community.

The Council created this award as a tribute to Brother Fitz, past president of the University of Dayton and Chair of the Council from 1996 to 1999, for his years of leadership and service to the community.  He also co-chaired the Montgomery County Child Protection Task Force from November 1993 to February 1995, and co-chaired the 2003 Human Services Levy Campaign.

Mr. Harrison will receive this award and be honored at the annual awards luncheon on February 15th.  The Council will solicit nominations for the 2008 Award in the fall.
