Montgomery County Presents Number One Dog Tag to Number One Dog

Release Date
: Jan 4, 2008
File:

Summary:

The Montgomery County Commissioners Judy Dodge, Dan Foley and Debbie Lieberman and Auditor Karl Keith presented the Number One Dog Tag to Cloud, a 5 year old Great Pyrenees.  The Number One Dog Tag is presented to a deserving dog in Montgomery County each year and serves as a reminder to license all dogs in Montgomery County.  Cloud is owned by Kim Vogel, a Montgomery County Job and Family Services Department employee who offered the top bid for the number one tag at this fall's SICSA auction.

Funds from the license sales go directly to the Animal Resource Center and support neglect and cruelty investigations, housing and adoption of stray animals as well as providing for emergency care for lost animals.  A licensed dog, by law, is housed at the ARC for 14 days and a license can be traced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  A license distinguishes a dog from being a stray and provides legal proof of ownership.  This year you can purchase a dog license online at mcohio.org, or at the Animal Resource Center, the Administration Building or at one of our many outposts, including Kroger locations which are all listed online at mcohio.org. You can also purchase a license from a uniformed Animal Resource Officer.

Last year, Montgomery County's Animal Resource Center handled almost 11,000 animals and the Animal Control Officers responded to 15,000 citizen complaints.  Montgomery County now microchips and spays or neuters all animals that leave the shelter.  The Animal Resource Center strives to find a home for each animal entering the shelter.  The Animal Resource Center is the largest animal care facility in the Montgomery County area.
