Longevity Award

Commissioners accepted an "Award of Excellence" from the International Concrete Repair Institute which was awarded to Montgomery County Department of Public Works in recognition of the Montgomery County underground garage restoration for excellence in longevity of repairs.

 

ARC Appreciation

 Montgomery County Commissioners declared April 13 – 19, 2008 as Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week and presented the Animal Care and Control Officers working at the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center with Certificates of Appreciation.

CGW kids

April 6 – 12, 2008 is National County Government Week and this year's theme is "Protecting Our Children". April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month.   Members of the Dayton Public Schools Superintendents Student Senate and members of the Ohio Youth Advisory Board (OHIO YAB) attended the April 8th commission meeting to get a firsthand look at county government in action.   The youth spent time talking with the Commissioners and County Administrator after the meeting and signing the "Wish" and "Give Thanks" boards.

Ohio's LGT Material Technology LLC hosted a breakfast meeting for a visiting delegation of Chinese businessmen from Qingdao TKS Sealing Industry Co. on March 28, 2008 to discuss a joint venture focusing on the research and application of "shape memory materials".  Montgomery County Commissioners, City of Dayton Mayor and representatives from Dayton Development Coalition and the Dayton Chamber of Commerce also attended to offer the region's support for this venture.

 

MRDD Month

Montgomery County Commissioners declared March 2008 as Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. 

EMT recognition

Montgomery County Commissioners recognized Washington Township EMT's/paramedics and Deputy Sheriff as "Montgomery County Heros" for their quick actions responding to a "911" call  which saved the life of six year old Carly Riling.

John Paul   BCC

In cooperation with Montgomery County and the Montgomery County Green Initiative, RAPCA is sponsoring a lawnmower exchange program for area residents.  The program invites residents to drop off gasoline-powered lawnmowers and receive a $150 coupon toward the purchase of a new Neuton battery-powered cordless electric lawnmower on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Montgomery County South Transfer Station.  For more information and to pre-register, please visit www.mcswd.org.  Commissioner Dan Foley, John Paul (RAPCA), and Commissioners Judy Dodge and Debbie Lieberman are seen here with the mower.

The Community-Wide Ex-Offender Reentry Task Force held its first meeting Friday, February 29, 2008.   The task force has been charged with developing a comprehensive plan for successfully rehabilitating and reintegrating ex-offenders within Montgomery County.  Commissioners Dan Foley and Judy Dodge are seen here with co-chairs of the task force U.S. District Judge Walter Rice and Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.

Speakers

February 27, 2008 the Commissioners and Family & Children First leaders announced that 12 Montgomery County early childhood programs were chosen as Focus Sites for the State of Ohio's Step Up to Quality program. The rating system was created to promote high-quality early care and education. Mini University Montgomery County was recognized as one of only two programs in Montgomery County receiving star ratings from the Step Up to Quality program.  Pictured are Commissioner Dan Foley, Jenni Roer, Commissioner Judy Dodge, Commissioner Debbie Lieberman, and Chris Olinsky.

February 26, 2008 the Commissioners recognized the Montgomery County Mentoring Collaborative's 2008 Outstanding Mentor Award Recipients.

Commissioners Dan Foley, Debbie Lieberman, and Judy Dodge are seen here with Keith Harrison, Executive Director of Camp Fire USA Greater Dayton Area Council.  Mr. Harrison was named the 2008 Recipient of the Brother Raymond L. Fitz, S.M., Ph.D. Award at a luncheon held in his honor on February 15, 2008.   The award is presented annually to someone who exemplifies Brother Fitz's dedication to the cause of nurturing and protecting children and families.


CSB teddy bear

The local chapter of the National Council of Negro Woman donated teddy bears galore to Children Services on Valentine's Day.  This is the sixth year the group has given teddy bears to abused and neglected children who come to the Children Services for visitation with their parents.  Pictured is County Commission President Judy Dodge, Council Chapter President Priscilla Jones and Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.

Go Red best

The Commissioners "Go Red for Women" to support the American Heart Association's campaign to bring awareness to women and those who love them about their risk of heart disease, which is now their No. 1 killer.   Throughout February, local organizations will be raising money to support the cause of heart research and education.

Montgomery County Commissioners Judy Dodge and Debbie Lieberman and Auditor Karl Keith, presented the Number One Dog Tag to Cloud, a 5 year old Great Pyrenees.  Cloud is owned by Kim Vogel, a Montgomery County Job and Family Services Department employee who offered the top bid of $1,000 for the number one tag at this fall's SICSA auction.  Montgomery County dog owners were reminded that the deadline for purchasing 2008 dog tags is January 31st.  

   Home  the Holidays
Commissioners Debbie Lieberman, Judy Dodge, and Dan Foley kicked off the local Home 4 the Holidays event and encouraged people to visit the Adopt-a-Thon on December 15th at the Dayton Mall.   Home 4 the Holidays is an annual nationwide adoption event sponsored by IAMS.  Animal Resource Center Director Mark Kumpf, Humane Society Director Brian Weltge, SISCA Director Rudy Bahr, and IAMS representative, Chris Parlett were there as well as a number of dogs and kittens who were looking for homes.  

 

 

 

OMB award

The Commissioners accepted a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and recognized the staff of the Office of Management and Budget for their hard work. This program has been promoting the preparation of high quality budget documents since 1984 and more than 1,100 governments (state and local) participate in the program each year.  This is the 24th year that Montgomery County has received this award.

Commissioners Judy Dodge and Dan Foley presented Allen E. Winters, a Jefferson Township firefighter/paramedic, a proclamation recognizing him as a Montgomery County Hero due to his quick actions following an automobile accident.

 

Environmental staff
Montgomery County Commissioners recognized the Senior Chemists, chemists, and Lab Technicians of the Sanitary Engineering Department's Environmental Laboratory on their excellent EPA certifications.

To kick off National Adoption Awareness Month, Commissioners Debbie Lieberman, Dan Foley and Judy Dodge unveiled the 2008 Adoption Calendar created by the Children Services Division of MCDFJS.

Commissioners Dan Foley, Judy Dodge and Debbie Lieberman accept the Governor's Excellence in Worker's Compensation Award.  The award was presented on behalf of Governor Strickland by Marsha Ryan, Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation Administrator to Montgomery County for its innovative safety program.

Commissioners Dan Foley, Debbie Lieberman, and Judy Dodge are seen here surrounded by 30 pillows which were just part of the many items donated by Montgomery County staff to help "Fill the Home" at River Commons.  Fifty-seven homeless men and women will move into their new homes early in September.
