Judge Alice O. McCollum is the first woman to serve on the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Probate Division. Prior to sitting on the bench in the Probate Division, she was the first and only woman elected to the Dayton Municipal Court bench. Judge McCollum served the Dayton Municipal Court for 24 years. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.A. in Mathematics. After relocating to Dayton, Judge McCollum began her legal career as a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow at the Legal Aid Society of Dayton. She later served as the Director of the Pre-Law Program at Wilberforce University. In 1977, she became an Assistant Professor of Law and Assistant Director of Clinical Legal Studies at the University of Dayton Law School. Her affiliation with professional organizations includes the Dayton Bar Association (currently President); Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission; past President of the Thurgood Marshall Law Society; American Bar Association; National Bar Association; the National Association of Women Judges; and National College of Probate Judges. Judge McCollum has served on many community boards including; Sinclair Community College Legal Assisting Advisory Board; Childrens' Medical Center, the Victoria Theatre Association and the United Theological Seminary. | |
