Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith commended Dorothy Lane Market as the recipients of the 2008 Excellence in Scanning Award.  Keith presented Dorothy Lane Market employees with awards at Dorothy Lane Market's Washington Township location.  Both Dorothy Lane Market stores in Montgomery County received perfect scores on scanning tests conducted by weights and measures inspectors in 2007. 

The Auditor presents the Excellence in Scanning Award each year in March, as part of National Weights and Measures Week, to an establishment that has demonstrated a commitment to pricing accuracy.  The Auditor selects the recipient based upon test results and recommendations from inspectors.

Auditor Keith praised Dorothy Lane Market's commitment to a fair market place, "Today, we salute Dorothy Lane Market for going above and beyond to ensure their pricing is accurate," he said.  "Fair and accurate pricing results in a better environment for both consumers and retailers."

In 2008, weights and measures inspectors conducted scanning tests at over 580 businesses in Montgomery County, scanning over 35,000 items.  Perfect scores were attained by 351 of the businesses tested during their first inspection, a figure that has risen 100% over the last five years. 

Dorothy Lane market started with humble beginnings when Calvin Mayne and Frank Sakada opened a fruit stand at the corner of Far Hills and Dorothy Lane in 1948.  The independent grocer has grown into a regional leader with stores in Oakwood, Washington Township and Springboro. This local business remains in the Mayne family- Norman Mayne is now President and CEO.
