Summary:
The Montgomery County Child Support Enforcement Agency collected over $107 million last year in child support payments, a 2.9 percent increase over 2007. Montgomery County provides child support services for 79,883 children annually.
"Children should always come first," said Bob Gruhl, assistant director, Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services, Child Support Division. "The collection of child support demonstrates that children's lives count enough to pursue every possible effort to ensure that Montgomery County's children receive the financial support they deserve."
Montgomery County currently has 60,426 child support cases. Montgomery County ranks first among the six major metro counties in the state with 68.11 percent collection on current support as of June, 2009.
"Evidence suggests that children who receive support from both parents get better grades in school and have fewer behavioral problems. Child Support helps families remain self sufficient, relying less on public assistance," added Gruhl.
Child Support offers a variety of services including the location of non-custodial parents, paternity establishment, enforcement of child support and medical support orders, and review and modification of support orders.
Governor Ted Strickland and Montgomery County Commissioners have designated August as Child Support Awareness Month.
