Summary:
The Dayton-Montgomery County Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) will be featured at the 2009 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Advanced Data Users Meeting in Arlington, Virginia on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

HUD's Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPs) annually solicits applicants to present at an Advanced Uses of Homeless Data Conference.  The purpose of this meeting is to facilitate peer-to-peer learning between communities demonstrating advanced uses of data at the local level for Continuum of Care (CoC) planning, management (including program evaluation), or decision making.  Montgomery County submitted an application for its usage of HMIS Data to target prevention resources and was chosen to present.

Montgomery County is committed to ending homelessness.  In 2006, the County teamed up with the City of Dayton, United Way and other community leaders to establish the Homeless Solutions Policy Board to oversee implementation of the community's 10-Year Plan for Ending Chronic Homelessness and Reducing Overall Homelessness.  The Plan is a blueprint for the development and implementation of services and housing to prevent homelessness and more quickly assist residents of the community who might find themselves homeless to become stably housed.

Montgomery County is one of 12 communities presenting proven, local examples of homeless data uses generated from analysis of HMIS and/or HMIS combined with other data sources and technologies.  The goal is to find innovative uses of HMIS data in CoCs.  Any community utilizing HMIS in a unique or comprehensive manner was encouraged to apply.

Tracey Norwood, Data Systems Coordinator from the County's Data Integration & Analysis Department, and Kathleen Shanahan, Homeless Solutions Program Coordinator from the Montgomery County Office of Family & Children First, will make the presentation.  HUD will cover the costs for travel to the meeting.  Airfare, lodging, ground transportation and per diem meal costs will be covered for selected presenters.
