Montgomery County and the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area are teaming up with two dozen agencies for the Foreclosure Prevention and Assistance Campaign.  The campaign was launched on Thursday, April 23, 2009 in the lobby of the Montgomery County Administration Building.

"Montgomery County has been forming partnerships with other community resources to devise a better way to try to get critical help to those facing the loss of their home," said Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge.  "The first hurdle is to create better awareness of a where a homeowner can go for free advice."

"What we have done is created a "one-stop shop" of resources our citizens can use if they find themselves facing foreclosure," added Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.  "These are free resources right here in our community."

"Last year, Montgomery County had more than 5,100 foreclosure filings.  From 1997 to 2007, there were over 42,000 foreclosure filings in the county," said Commissioner Dan Foley.  "Those aren't just numbers; they are families and individuals, our neighbors, who possibly felt there was nowhere to turn for help and lost their homes."

Citizens can call one phone number and visit one web site to find those resources.  That phone number is the United Way's HelpLink 2-1-1.  Dial 2-1-1 and those specially trained operators will refer you to the agency best-suited to meet your needs.
