Bite Free Activity Worksheet
Summary:
With several recent cases of dogs biting children and adults, the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is providing these tips to help keep you and your family safe:
How to avoid being bitten by a dog:
- Never approach a strange dog. That dog may see you as a threat.
- Don't pet a dog without letting it see and sniff you first.
- Never turn your back to a dog and run away.
- Don't disturb a dog while it's sleeping, eating, chewing on a toy or caring for puppies.
If you think a dog may attack:
- Never scream and run.
- Remain motionless, hands at your sides, and avoid eye contact with the dog.
- If the dog attacks, use your jacket, purse, bicycle or anything that you can put between yourself and the dog.
- If you fall or are knocked to the ground, curl into a ball with your hands over your ears and remain motionless. Try not to scream and roll around.
The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center has teamed up with Dayton Children's Medical Center and Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County to provide a "Bite Free Program" which includes an activity worksheet for children ages five to nine.
