Summary:
On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Foley will testify before the Ohio House Housing & Urban Revitalization Committee at the Statehouse (Room 116) in Columbus, Ohio.
Commissioner Foley is scheduled to testify at 11 a.m. on House Bill 3. HB 3, if passed, would declare a six-month moratorium on mortgage foreclosures.
Last month, the Montgomery County Commissioners passed a resolution urging the Ohio General Assembly to enact emergency legislation providing a six-month moratorium on foreclosures of primary residences and rental property.
The Montgomery County Commissioners believe a six month moratorium on foreclosures would allow additional time for at-risk citizens to take advantage of new assistance provided by the recently adopted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Last year, Montgomery County had more than 5,100 foreclosure filings. From 1997 to 2007, there were over 42,000 foreclosure filings in the county.
Commissioner Foley's brother, State Representative Mike Foley, introduced HB3. State Representative Foley is the Chairman of the Ohio House Housing & Urban Revitalization Committee.
