Summary:
On February 24, 2009, the Montgomery County Commissioners passed a resolution urging the Ohio General Assembly to enact emergency legislation providing a six month moratorium on foreclosures of primary residences and rental property.
The Montgomery County Commissioners believe a six month moratorium on foreclosures would allow additional time for at-risk citizens to take advantage of new assistance provided by the recently adopted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Last year, Montgomery County had more than 5,100 foreclosure filings. From 1997 to 2007, there were over 42,000 foreclosure filings in the county.
The Clerk of Commission will now distribute certified copies of the resolution to the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, the President of the Ohio Senate, the Governor of Ohio and the Ohio Legislative Service Commission.
