Summary:
Last month, the Montgomery County Economic Development/Government Equity (ED/GE) Advisory Committee recommended funding ten projects, totaling $1,258,161. One of those projects was a proposed $24,000 grant for Essex Management in the Village of New Lebanon.
At its January 27, 2009, General Session meeting, the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners approved that ED/GE grant.
With this ED/GE grant, the Essex Management project brings the first private sector client to the New Lebanon Industrial Park since it broke ground in 2000. Essex will be constructing a 2,700 sq. ft. building on 1.75 acres in the "shovel ready" Industrial Park. In addition to its current 7 employees, Essex plans to add three additional new positions in 2009. ED/GE funds will be utilized for site preparation, concrete work, driveway and walkway construction and landscaping.
The ED/GE Program was established by the Montgomery County Commissioners in 1992 to attract jobs and retain the County's tax base, reduce inter-local competition for development, enable the County to successfully compete as a region in national and international markets, and to share the benefits of county-wide economic prosperity among all jurisdictions in the County. After nine successful years, ED/GE was renewed for another ten years, beginning in 2001. 28 jurisdictions, representing 100% of Montgomery County's population, are members.
