For $16 per license, dog owners purchase the peace of mind that comes with 24-hour identification, ensuring that their puppy will return home safely and quickly. This also enables the dog owner to avoid a potential $150 ticket for failure to license their pet. There is also a $16 late fee penalty for owners who fail to license their dog before the January 31st deadline.
Benefits of Dog Licensing:
A Montgomery County dog license can be traced 24 hours a day, 365 a year from a link with the
Montgomery County Auditor.
A license distinguishes a lost dog from a stray dog. Strangers are more apt to extend themselves to licensed pet.
A dog license provides legal proof of ownership
Licensed dogs are eligible for the Vacation Registration Program.
Licensed dogs, by law, are housed at the Shelter 14 days before becoming the property of the county. Revenue from licensing is the Animal Shelter's major source of funding.
