2009 Environmental Calendar Winners
Summary:
The winners of the Montgomery County 2009 Environmental Calendar Contest were recognized during a reception on November 18th, on the first floor of the Montgomery County Administration Building.
With 818 entries received, 43 area schools, home schooled students, and other organizations participated in Montgomery County's 2009 Environmental Calendar Contest.
The contest is sponsored by Montgomery County Solid Waste and Montgomery County Water Services. Students in divisions from kindergarten through 12th grade, including special needs, choose one of two themes:
Recycle – Little Effort BIG Difference
OR
Water – Rivers, Lakes, and Streams: Help Keep Them Clean
Students were to creatively express the ease and benefits of recycling or the need to keep our waterways free of pollutants.
"We had record breaking participation this year," commented Greg Merrill, Water Services Director. "It is rewarding to know that environmental stewardship inspires so many."
Following the reception, the winning artists were recognized by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners at the regularly scheduled commission meeting.
Prizes donated by marketing agency Penny, Ohlmann, and Nieman, Office Depot, and others were awarded following the Commission meeting.
