ARC Hosting Vaccination Clinic for Pet Owners in Need

Start your new year off with healthy pets! The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is holding a Vaccination Clinic for pet owners who receive public assistance or unemployment benefits on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The clinic is made possible by an ASPCA Grant to Communities in Need. In an effort to keep pets in their homes and out of shelters, the ASPCA has awarded funding to the Animal Resource Center for the vaccination of cats and dogs whose owners cannot afford yearly routine vaccinations.

The event will be held at the Animal Resource Center located at 6790 Webster St. Dayton, OH 45414 on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Families with pets in need of vaccinations must show proof of public assistance or unemployment. The co-pay is $5 for one animal and $10 (total) for up to 3 animals.  Your dog must be licensed to receive the vaccinations.

Vaccinations are available for 100 animals so pet owners are encouraged to reserve a time by contacting the Animal Resource Center at (937) 898-4457 or e-mailing AnimalShelter@mcohio.org.  Pre-registration closes Friday, January 25, 2013 at Noon. Any spots that are not pre-registered will be available for walk-ins the day of the event.

In late October 2012, the ASPCA announced that it would be pledging $100,000 to local animal shelters, private veterinarians and animal welfare organizations across the country to help fund affordable vaccination clinics in communities that need it most.

“Our goal is to make sure pets stay healthy at home and don’t end up in a shelter because their owners have financial difficulties,” said ARC Director Mark Kumpf.  “The economy has made it difficult for some pet owners to afford yearly vaccinations.  We are grateful to ASPCA for giving us the opportunity to give back to pet owners who are struggling.”

And, don’t forget to license your dog!  The deadline to buy a 2013 Montgomery County Dog License is Thursday, January 31, 2013. The ARC will have extended hours:

Monday January 28 through Wednesday, January 30, 2013:  9 am - 6 pm

Thursday January 31, 2013 (Last day to purchase license):  9 am - 7 pm
