Strong Leadership Qualities and Experience Stand Out in County Administrator Selection

On Thursday, December 13, 2012, Montgomery County Commissioners Judy Dodge, Dan Foley and Debbie Lieberman announced their appointment of Joseph P. Tuss to the position of County Administrator.  Mr. Tuss has served as Interim County Administrator since June following the retirement of former Administrator Debbie Feldman.

“Since June, the Commissioners have been impressed by Joe’s leadership skills in his role as Interim County Administrator,” said Commission President Judy Dodge.  “Joe has extensive experience in community and economic development, strategic planning, financial management and fostering public and private partnerships.”

Mr. Tuss has worked for Montgomery County since 2001 and was promoted to Deputy County Administrator – Director of Community and Economic Development in 2009.  Mr. Tuss has lead the development and implementation of the County’s strategic community and economic development initiatives including the $70 million Austin Interchange Project, the creation of the Ohio Aerospace Hub, the creation of 1,500 new jobs with the recruitment of several out-of-state corporations and the management of the $17.3 million Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  Mr. Tuss previously worked in leadership roles with the City of Dayton.

“After observing Joe in this role for several months and reviewing the applications received for this position, the Commissioners unanimously agreed that Joe was the best candidate to lead Montgomery County in our continued efforts to grow jobs and businesses and to advance our strategic and economic development initiatives,” added Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.  

“It is truly an honor to be appointed Montgomery County Administrator,” said Mr. Tuss.  “I look forward to serving the citizens and continuing County’s long-standing tradition of excellence and outstanding public service.”

“With Joe’s 15 years of government leadership experience, Montgomery County is poised to further advance our community and economic development efforts as we strive to provide greater opportunities for our citizens and businesses,” said Commissioner Dan Foley.

Mr. Tuss is a member of the County Administrators Association of Ohio, the International Economic Development Council and the Ohio Economic Development Association.  He also serves on the Boards of CityWide Development Corporation, the National Composite Center, the Entrepreneurs Center and the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board.
