County Commissioners to Attend "Paint the Square Pink"

The Breast Cancer Task Force of the Greater Miami Valley is sponsoring the annual Paint the Square Pink event for the public at Courthouse Square, Downtown Dayton on Monday, October 1st. from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This annual kick off event for October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will have area agencies and hospitals on hand with free information and displays on breast cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. Breast cancer affects over 960 women each year in the Greater Dayton area alone and an estimated 230,480 women and 2,140 men nationally.

The Paint the Square Pink program will begin at 12:15 pm with Kim Faris of 94.5 LITE FM as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Highlights will feature the fountain flowing with pink water and comments from Montgomery County Commissioners Judy Dodge, Dan Foley and Deb Lieberman. Dr. Louis Keiler, Co-Medical Advisor of the Task Force, will provide insight on current trends in breast cancer treatment, and a breast cancer survivor will share a personal message to breast cancer survivors. The event will conclude with local breast cancer survivors raising pink flags over the square. The flags will remain in place in support of breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October.

Downtown eateries will also offer discounts and specials to patrons who wear pink on October 1st. For a listing of these merchants, please go the website at www.breastcancertf.org, or contact the Breast Cancer Task Force Chair Roberta Taylor at 937-227-9420.
