Veterans Service Commission Distributes Grave Markers to Military Posts

On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission distributed veterans’ grave markers, flags and wreaths to local veterans organizations.

The Veterans Organizations of Montgomery County volunteer their time to place markers, flags and wreaths at local veterans’ gravesites in the county. These organizations include the American Legion, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans, Korean War Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission.

Other groups and organizations that assisted in the preparation of the wreaths this year for the first time include Hobby Lobby (Store #346 – Miami Township), Elizabeth Place LLC and Stivers School for the Arts.

The National Honor Society students and the World Affairs students at Stivers volunteered their time to assemble each of the over 200 wreaths.

In all 25,000 flags and 12,000 markers were distributed.
