Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Recognized for Environmental Crime Enforcement Efforts

Montgomery County Environmental Crimes Deputy Victoria Dingee was recognized for her outstanding work in the field of environmental law enforcement with the 2013 Keep Ohio Beautiful Law Enforcement Recognition Award. The award was presented at the annual meeting of Keep Ohio Beautiful affiliates, held on July 12, 2013.

Deputy Dingee is a member of the Montgomery County Environmental Crimes Task Force, a partnership between local municipalities and regulatory agencies aimed at combating illegal dumping and other environmental crimes.

“Deputy Victoria Dingee adds immeasurable value to the community by providing outstanding environmental education and enforcement,” said Montgomery County Commissioner and Solid Waste Advisory Committee member Judy Dodge. “She is the cornerstone of the Montgomery County Environmental Crimes Task Force, and a great deal of our success can be directly attributed to her and the work she has conducted on our behalf.”

Since January 2013, Deputy Dingee has investigated 36 open/illegal dumping cases, and successfully prosecuted nine of those cases. The remaining cases are either pending in the courts or are still under investigation. These convictions have resulted in more than $1,700 in fines and hundreds of hours of community service.  Deputy Dingee has also assisted with the cleanup of 51 illegal dump sites, resulting in the removal and recycling of more than 145,000 scrap tires.

When not working on enforcement cases, Deputy Dingee spends a great deal of time educating local businesses and residents to prevent illegal dumping.

“My goal is not to inflict the harshest penalties possible, but rather to educate these individuals on why it is important do the right thing and assist them in doing so,” Deputy Dingee said.
