Montgomery County Environmental Services is issuing a public advisory to notify Montgomery County water/sewer customers about letters being sent from American Water Resources, Inc., a company that offers insurance coverage for private plumbing, and private water and sewer lines.

Property owners are responsible for maintaining water service from the curb stop to their home or business. If a break occurs in this area, repairs are the responsibility of the property owner. In addition, property owners are responsible for maintaining sewer service from the mainline sanitary sewer to their home or business. If a sewer blockage or break occurs in this area, repairs are the responsibility of the property owner.
Montgomery County Environmental Services encourages property owners to learn more about their responsibilities for maintaining and repairing water and/or sewer service, and to carefully review any water and/or sewer insurance coverage offers.
Montgomery County Environmental Services does not offer insurance for water and/or sewer customers; however, the department does offer a Foundation Drain Disconnect Program, which provides financial assistance to help property owners protect themselves against basement flooding problems. More information is available at www.mcohio.org/services/water/drain_disconnect.html.
