As the Montgomery County Engineer’s Office has identified a roundabout as the preferred alternative for improving the intersection of Alex Bell Road, and Mad River Road, it’s fitting that this week is National Roundabout Week. Montgomery County Engineer Paul Gruner wants to pass this information along. Due to the emergency response in North and South Carolina, the Federal Highway Administration is unable to use social media in promoting National Roundabout Week, because they need to dedicate their social media posts to disaster-related items.
Jeffrey Shaw of the Federal Highway Administration sent the following message on Friday: “Due to the expected magnitude and ongoing nature of the emergency response and relief effort resulting from Hurricane Florence, the FHWA social media channels will remain limited, for the foreseeable future, to only posting critical information related to that disaster. Therefore, while National Roundabouts Week is still designated for next week, we are proceeding as though there will be no posts by FHWA as originally planned…..However, in lieu of the daily social media posts, we are working with our I.T. team to create a new FHWA web page at https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/NRW, where the same information that we had planned to post each day may be found.” (The referenced web page is now live.)
In addition, the City of Carmel, Indiana, is celebrating National Roundabouts Week in a big way, as reported in the IndyStar: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/local/hamilton-county/carmel/2018/09/17/carmel-throwing-weeklong-party-roundabouts/1333402002/
