Montgomery County Receives Budget Award for 34th Consecutive Year

Montgomery County is being honored for the 34th consecutive year with the “GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and a communications device.  Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“This award represents over three decades of exceptional financial management provided to our citizens,” said Montgomery County Commission President Debbie Lieberman.  “Our Office of Management & Budget ensures that these budget documents are easily accessible and provide our citizens with vital information on how their tax dollars are spent.”

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality.

GFOA is a major professional association serving the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners throughout North America.  The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
