Youth Resource Center Offers Anger Management Sessions

The Anger Management Series is an education class to help young people recognize and address feelings of anger in healthy and appropriate ways. Feelings of anger can and will impact your life in negative ways if those feelings are not addressed in the right manner. The Montgomery County Youth Resource Center is offering a 10-week anger management program that will help you master your feelings of anger. The 10 weekly sessions will proceed as follows:
 
Session 1 - Thursday, March 9, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Overview of Anger Management Treatment
In this session, you will get a general overview of the anger management program. You will learn the purpose of the group, group rules, definitions of anger and aggression, myths about anger, anger as a routine response, and the introduction of the anger meter used to detect feelings of anger.
 
Session 2 - Thursday, March 16, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Events and Ques
You will learn how to explore an incident of anger. You will learn how to spot the actions and patterns that lead to a rise of anger.
 
Session 3 - Thursday, March 23, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Anger Control Plans
In this third session, you will learn about specific plans to control your anger. The anger control plan will be used to list methods to be used to recognize when your anger is increasing, and skills to control that anger.
 
Session 4 - Thursday, March 30, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
The Aggression Cycle
You will learn about the aggression cycle and practice muscle relaxation techniques. The aggression cycle is a combined outline of what you learned in the first three sessions (the models of the anger meter, signals to anger, and the anger control plan).
 
Session 5 - Thursday, April 6, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Cognitive Restructuring
The A-B-C-D Model will be presented as a tool to help with changing thought patterns. You will also learn about thought stopping and alternative to the A-B-C-D Model.
 
Session 6 - Thursday, April 13, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Review Session
You will use your own words to review the basic ideas of anger management that have been taught to you. If you have any questions, or are unclear about any of the ideas or strategies presented by the group leader, the group leader will review the material with you.
 
Sessions 7 & 8 - Thursday, April 20, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Assertiveness and the Conflict Resolution Model
In these two sessions, you will learn about assertiveness, the Conflict Resolution Model and how acting in a helpful manner can reduce struggles you have with others.
 
Sessions 9 & 10 - Thursday, April 27, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Anger and the Family
In reviewing learned concepts from earlier sessions, we will discuss how anger and other emotions were expressed in your family. This will involve seeing how past family exchanges affect current thoughts, feelings and behavior.
 
Session 11 - Thursday, May 4, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Review Session
You will review and recap the basic ideas of anger management that have been presented to you, in your own words. If you have any questions, or are unclear about any of the concepts or strategies presented by the group leader, the group leader will review the material with you.
 
Session 12 - Thursday, May 11, 2017, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Closing and Graduation
In our final session, we will review your anger control plan and rate the lessons for their helpfulness and understanding. You will also complete a closing exercise and be awarded a certificate of completion.
