Montgomery County Probate Court is proud to announce that Judge Alice O. McCollum is participating in the National Adoption Day Proceedings on Friday, November 16, 2012. This local celebration is part of the nationwide effort to call attention to the thousands of foster children waiting for adoption and to celebrate all the families that do adopt. Currently there are more than 700 children in Montgomery County that live in foster care with more entering the foster care system each year. 70 of these children are available for adoption. They are waiting for a loving, permanent family to step forward and open their homes to adopt. Many of the children waiting for adoption are part of large sibling groups.
November is National Adoption Month, a collective effort nationwide to raise awareness about the dire need for adoptive homes. Local sponsors for this event are Barbara Kraus, Beth Ferrari, Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, Catharine Kidd, Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team, Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team, Ginger Heuker, Jayme Robinson, John Birhanzl, Montgomery County Sheriff, Phil Plummer, ProWare, The Victoria Theatre Association, Thirty One Company, Nicole Kearns and Wilma Francis.
"Creating forever families for the 70 children waiting in foster care in Montgomery County must be a collective promise from our community," said Children Services Assistant Director Geraldine Pegues. "Too often the dream of a forever family never becomes a reality for some children and that's simply unacceptable. Children waiting for adoption deserve a permanent home that offers security, nurturing and unconditional love."
