Yankee Street Improvement Project Phase 2
Austin Boulevard/Social Row Road To Winding Green Way
City Of Centerville/Washington Township
The City of Centerville and the Montgomery County Engineer’s Office is planning to widen Yankee Street to three lanes from Social Row Road/Austin Boulevard to Winding Green Way in 2016.
Within the project limits, Yankee Street is mostly a two-lane roadway with paved shoulders. Because of housing developments, it has been widened and/or reconstructed only in localized areas. It has basically evolved over the years. Back up of traffic occurs because there are no left turns to separate left turns from the normal traffic flow. The capacity of the existing two-lane roadway with narrow shoulders and side ditches, however, is less than adequate to carry the current average daily traffic of 13,330 vehicles per day. Furthermore, the capacity of the existing facility will be significantly less than adequate to carry the design year traffic of 16,990 vehicles per day.
This project consists of resurfacing and widening of Yankee Street to a three lane section with curb and gutter along the east side along with storm sewer. The work includes improvements to the horizontal and vertical alignment. To accommodate left turns, a two way turn lane will be installed in the center of the pavement. The proposed three lane typical section consists of: 12’ Southbound lane with 8’ paved shoulder within the required 12’ graded shoulder, and clear zone grading, 12’ TWLTL ( two-way-left-turn-lane), and 12’ North Bound Lane with a 7’ Paved shoulder. One existing culvert will be lengthened. The project length is 0.5 miles.
Traffic will be maintained during construction with the exception of one week to extend the box culvert and remove the casing from the gas main.
Construction is expected to start April 4, 2016. Starting, April 18th, Yankee Phase 2 Widening CR175-0079 PID 87089 will be closed between Austin Pike and Spring Valley Pike for five calendar days, weather permitting. Access to Winding Green Way will be from the north; Access to Yankee Trace Golf Course will be from the south.
Bids were taken for the project on January 20, 2016 and the contract was awarded to Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. on February 16, 2016 for $1,896,937.33. Federal funds were secured for 60% of the construction of the project through Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the local share is being shared by the City of Centerville and Montgomery County.
