County government spending details will soon be readily accessible online and available to the public through a partnership between the County Auditor’s Office and the State Treasurer’s Office.

Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith was joined by Ohio Treasurer of State Josh Mandel at the county building in Dayton on Tuesday, July 7, to announce that the county will be the latest government entity to join the Treasurer’s OhioCheckbook.com Transparency project.

“The Montgomery County Auditor’s Office prides itself on serving the public in the most open and transparent ways possible,” Keith said. “This partnership will continue our ongoing commitment of using new innovations and technology to make government more accessible and accountable.”

OhioCheckbook.com was launched by the State Treasurer’s office last year.  The website provides searchable public spending records on a centralized database open for inspection to the public on the internet, and it recently earned Ohio the number one ranking in the country for government transparency.

“I believe the people of Montgomery County have a right to know how their tax money is being spent and I applaud Auditor Keith for partnering with the Treasurer’s office to post their finances on OhioCheckbook.com,” said Treasurer Mandel.

Keith said his office is working with the State Treasurer’s staff and hopes to be able to post the county’s financial data to the state website by late summer or early fall.  On an annual basis the county processes approximately 80,000 financial transactions totaling $800 million.
