Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith and members of his real estate staff continued the office’s series of Board of Revision Workshops at the Huber Heights Government Center on Wednesday afternoon, March 18th.
Wednesday’s session was one of a chain of workshops held around the county designed to instruct citizens on how to dispute the value set on properties during last year’s county-wide property revaluation.
The deadline for filing an appeal is Tuesday, March 31st.
“We want to make sure that anyone interested in filing an appeal understands the process and knows how to properly file and present their case,” Keith said. “We are hoping these workshops along with information available from our office and on our website help to make the appeal process more open and accessible.”
The workshop in Huber Heights was conducted by Doug Trout, director of real estate for Auditor Keith, and Gen Murphy, Board of Revision supervisor. Keith also attended the session to answer questions from those in attendance.
The Board of Revision hears appeals from property owners who wish to contest the assessed value of their property as determined by the county for taxing purposes. It is a three-member board consisting of representatives from the county auditor’s office, the county treasurer’s office and the Board of County Commissioners.
More than 1,700 appeals have been filed this year already, and Keith said he expects that number to increase as the March 31st deadline approaches.
Appeal forms are available by contacting the county auditor’s office at 937-496-6856. Keith said appeal forms may also be downloaded from the auditor’s website at www.mc-bor.org and for the first time this year can be filed electronically through the website.
