Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith named Handyman Ace Hardware as the winner of the 2012 Excellence in Scanning Award in celebration of National Weights and Measures Week. Keith presented the award to Handyman Ace Hardware representatives on Tuesday, March 6th at the company’s Kettering store located on East Stroop Road.
During the award presentation, Keith praised Handyman Ace Hardware for its commitment to a healthy marketplace. "True and accurate pricing is important to both consumers and retailers," Keith said. "We commend Handyman Ace Hardware for going beyond the norm to ensure accurate prices which serves to build and maintain confidence in everyday commercial transactions."
Handyman Ace Hardware is a third generation family-owned business with five locations in Montgomery County; two in Dayton as well as locations in Kettering, Centerville and Miamisburg. According to Keith, all five locations passed price verification tests conducted by weights and measures inspectors this past year. Additionally, all scales used in each of the stores to weigh items such as nails and bird seed also passed initial inspections.
Keith presents the Excellence in Scanning Award every March as part of National Weights and Measures Week to an establishment that has demonstrated a commitment to accurate pricing. In the past year, Montgomery County weights and measures inspectors conducted scanning tests at 472 retailers, verifying prices on more than 30,000 items.
The Auditor’s Office employs three full-time inspectors who also tested and certified more than 1,800 scales and 5,300 gas pumps in 2011.
