Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith along with SICSA Executive Director Nora
Vondrell presented the 2012 #1 dog tag to Hail, a seven month old Great Pyrenees and
SICSA rescue. Hail’s owners, Kim Vogel and Gail Noel of Kettering, received the honor
at a ceremony in the County Administration Building on January 20th. The #2 license
went to the dog of Stacy Ochester from Kettering while the #3 dog tag was won by the
dog of Francie Camp of Centerville.
The top three 2012 dog tags were auctioned off at the SICSA Red Dog charity auction in
September. Their winning donations, totaling almost $2,000, will go to help SICSA
(Society for the Improvement of Conditions of Stray Animals) in its mission to support
animal care. “We really appreciate all three owners and their support of the animal
community,” said Auditor Keith.
The goal of the number one dog ceremony is to promote dog licensing. Dog owners
may purchase a $20 license for spayed or neutered dogs and an unaltered dog tag for
$24, but there are exceptions. The previous deadline to purchase 2012 Montgomery
County Dog Licenses was January 31st but sales will be extended through February 29th,
after that there is a penalty.
The county has issued over 33,000 dog licenses so far this season, on pace to once
again license over 70,000 dogs in Montgomery County. Over 11,000 of this year’s
licenses have been purchased through the Auditor’s website. According to Keith, online
sales are up about 20% compared to last year.
To purchase a dog license online, please go to www.mcohio.org/dogs. Licenses are
also on sale at the Auditor’s Office, Animal Resource Center, Humane Society, SICSA
and at other outposts around the county. Please call 937-225-4314 for more information.
