| Auditor Karl Keith recognized Kroger as the winner of the 2010 Excellence in Scanning Award. Keith presented Kroger Store Operations Manager Charlie Zitnik with the award at the new fresh fare Kroger in Kettering.
The Auditor presents the Excellence in Scanning Award each year in March, as part of National Weights and Measures Week, to an establishment that has demonstrated a commitment to pricing accuracy. The Auditor selects the recipient based upon test results and recommendations from inspectors.
Kroger has gone above and beyond to ensure their scanners are accurate. All 15 Kroger stores in Montgomery County passed scanning tests on the first try this year. "That is quite an accomplishment," said Auditor Keith. "It is challenging to maintaining accurate pricing and scanning when you have thousands of items and daily price changes, as Kroger does."
In 1883, Barney Kroger invested his life savings to start a small grocery store in Cincinnati. Today, Kroger has grown into one of the nation's largest grocers with over 20 locations in the Dayton region. "I'm proud to honor this local business for their excellence in ensuring a fair marketplace," Keith said.
In 2009, weights and measures inspectors conducted scanning tests at over 530 businesses in Montgomery County, scanning over 37,000 items. 310 local businesses attained perfect scores on their first inspection.
