Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith named CVS Pharmacy as the winner of the 2014 Excellence in Scanning Award in celebration of National Weights and Measures Week. Keith presented the award to CVS Pharmacy store managers from their eighteen county stores on Wednesday, March 12th at a CVS corporate business meeting held in Englewood.
During the award presentation, Keith praised CVS Pharmacy for promoting a high standard of accuracy. “Accurate and fair pricing is important to building a successful marketplace and both consumers and retailers rely on this protection,” Keith said.
Founded in 1964, CVS Pharmacy is currently the largest pharmacy chain in the United States with more than 7,600 stores nationwide in addition to their eighteen area locations in Centerville, Dayton, Germantown, Kettering, Harrison Township, Huber Heights, Miami Township, Miamisburg, Riverside, Trotwood and Union.
“All CVS Pharmacy locations passed their price verification tests. Of the eighteen CVS stores, fifteen received a perfect score while three scored a passing 98%,” Keith said. “These tests included price verification on everyday products such as household products, cold medicine, vitamins and candy.”
Keith presents the Excellence in Scanning Award every March as part of National Weights and Measures Week to a local business that has demonstrates a commitment to accurate pricing. In the past year, Montgomery County Weights and Measures staff conducted scanning tests more than 500 retailers while verifying prices on over 32,000 items.
The Auditor’s Office employs three full-time inspectors who also tested and certified almost 2,000 scales and more than 5,700 gas pumps in 2013.
