State Auditor Dave Yost recently recognized Montgomery County for excellent financial accountability with the Auditor of State Award with Distinction. A recent audit of Montgomery County by Auditor of State returned a clean audit report praising the county’s excellent record keeping and financial responsibility. County Auditor Karl Keith accepted the award from David Miller of the State Auditor’s Office.
“Good finance is important to everything government does, and taxpayers expect this kind of accountability,” Auditor Yost said. “Sound budgetary decisions by the commissioners depend on clean and accurate books, and I am pleased to present this award to Montgomery County.”
The Auditor of State Award with Distinction is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report.
Auditor Keith praised his accounting staff for their hard work and attention to detail. “The performance of the Auditor’s Office staff is to be commended,” Keith said. “Their diligence and persistence earned this recognition. ”During tough economic times, it’s more important than ever to account for every dollar and expenditure that passes through the county.”
Auditor Keith’s accounting staff must account for funds collected and spent in county government. They work with the Office of Management and Budget and the County Treasurer to release a CAFR each year detailing how the public’s money is spent, ensuring transparency and accountability.
