Submit your sculpture for the 23rd Annual Recycled Sculpture Contest. This contest promotes environmental awareness among students while encouraging artistic and creative thinking.

The contest is open to all Montgomery County students in grades K-12.
Sculptures must be designed and built by students, with a focus on the use of recyclable materials that have been reclaimed or are scraps for reuse.

Sculptures may be created by:

  • Individuals
  • Teams of two to four students
Sculptures will be judged on:
  • Number of recyclable materials used (i.e., wood, paper, plastic, metals).
  • Glass NOT permitted.
  • Percent of sculpture made from recycled materials
  • Originality (Sculpture can be realistic or abstract)
  • Design and artistic impact (WOW factor)
  • Complexity of sculpture
Sculptures Guidelines:
  • Sculptures cannot exceed 3 feet (wide), by 3 feet (long), by 4 feet (tall).
  • One entry per student or team.
  • Entries exceeding these limits will be disqualified. All materials to be counted in the judging must be visible on the sculpture.
  • Select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from your school by April 21, 2017.
  • Notify Sculpture Coordinator of the total number of school participants, names of winners (including place finished in school contest) by fax, mail or e-mail with proper forms. Forms will be sent to your school upon registration.
  • Complete all areas of the entry card for each sculpture entry. Entry cards will be sent to you upon registration of your school winners.
  • Deliver entries and completed cards to judging location at the designated time.
  • Attend the awards ceremony on May 6th, from 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Remove sculptures between 11:30 a.m. and noon on the day of the awards ceremony. MCSWD will not be responsible for sculptures left at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
School Category & Divisions:

Each school's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each division will be invited to participate in the County-wide contest. A packet will be mailed to registered schools that include the Official Rules and Entry Card. (Required for County Contest)

Category 1 = Grades K-2
Category 2 = Grades 3-5
Category 3 = Grades 6-8
Category 4 = Grades 9-12
(Please note if student is entering under Special Education category.)

2017 Timeline

April 7th: Registration Deadline. Schools must register to participate in the Recycled Sculpture Contest.
April 21-25th: Choose 1st, 2nd & 3rd place school winners, and notify County Coordinator of names through fax/mail/email.
May 3rd & 4th: Deliver school-level winning sculptures to judging location.
May 6th: Winners announced at the awards reception.

NOTE: Due to the size of the entry pool, we are unable to accommodate after-deadline requests. All rules regarding sculpture construction will be strictly enforced.
