Montgomery County's life insurance program is administered by The Hartford. In addition to Basic Life and AD&D you may purchase supplemental life insurance as well as spouse and dependent life which promotes increased flexibility for employees and family members. The supplemental life insurance is offered at affordable group rates.
Basic Life & AD&D for Employees:
Basic Life and AD&D: The County provides you with $50,000 of term life insurance coverage and AD&D coverage at no cost to you. (Not applicable to PHDMC employees.)
Supplemental Life Insurance for Employees:
The County offers employees the opportunity to purchase supplemental life insurance at low group rates through payroll deductions. (Not application to PHDMC and DDS employees.) You may apply for additional life insurance for yourself in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $500,000. Keep in mind that if you wish to increase your coverage due to a qualifying life event or during open enrollment, you will be required to provide a Personal Health Information (PHA) form to The Hartford. New hire employees can purchase supplemental life insurance in $10,000 increments up to $300,000 without providing a PHA form to The Hartford or up to $500,000 with the PHA within their first 30 days of employment.
Supplemental Life Insurance for Dependents:
The County also provides employees the opportunity to purchase supplemental life insurance for their spouses and/or dependent children at low group rates through payroll deductions. Keep in mind that to purchase supplemental spouse or dependent life, you must first select supplemental life for yourself.
The benefit for a dependent spouse can be up to 50 percent of your Supplemental Life amount, not to exceed $250,000. If you and your spouse are both employed by Montgomery County, you cannot be covered as both an insured person and as a dependent. New hire employees can purchase spouse supplemental life insurance in $5,000 increments up to $100,000 without providing a PHA form or up to $250,000 with a PHA form for within their first 30 days of employment.
The benefit for a dependent child(ren) is $10,000 or $20,000. One rate covers all eligible dependent children.
